Roadside Emergency Must Haves

A flat tire, mechanical problem, or empty fuel tank, are all common issues that drivers can encounter while on the road. Because some of these problems are unavoidable, it is important for drivers to make sure they are prepared for the worst in order to ensure their safety. At American Tri-Star in San Diego, we believe that the safety of our drivers is of the utmost importance and we want all of our clients to be prepared in case of a road side emergency. We recommend that all drivers have these essential items in their vehicle:

  • Basic first aid kit
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Jumper cables, preferably 12 feet long
  • Fuses that are compatible with the make and model of your car
  • Small tool kit with the essentials: pliers, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches
  • Jack and lug wrench
  • Foam tire sealant or a tire repair kit

While the above are only a few items that can help drivers on the road, they can make a road side emergency less stressful. Other things to consider, but may be difficult to obtain or troublesome to carry around include a fire extinguisher, as well as flares or a warning light.

As the San Diego auto insurance experts, we always recommend that drivers have all their insurance paperwork including their club card or roadside assistance number in the glove compartment or in a place that is easily accessible. It may also be helpful to keep small bills, a pen and pad of paper, and a disposable camera in your car in case you need to document an accident or a problem with your vehicle.
